Song For Autumn

In the deep fall

don’t you imagine the leaves

think how comfortable it will be to touch the earth

instead of the nothingness of air

and the endless freshets of wind?

And don’t you think the trees themselves,

especially those with mossy,warm caves, begin to think

of the birds that will come –

six, a dozen –

to sleep inside their bodies?

And don’t you hear the goldenrod whispering goodbye,

the everlasting being crowned with the first tuffets of snow?

The pond vanishes,

and the white field over which the fox runs so quickly

brings outits blue shadows.

And the wind pumps its bellows.

And at evening especially,

the piled firewood shifts a little,

longing to be on its way.

Fall has come to the Southwest. The mornings are crisp, the afternoons warm. My favorite time of year.

I've been getting ready for a couple of shows here in Silver City and Mimbres. It will be the first time I've shown my work in person for 2 years! I have to say it feels good. Being in the studio again is awesome. After the motorcycle accident I wasnt sure I would be able to work again. My vision was all messed up and my neck, well really everything above the neck was a mess..... But with lots of therapy and time Im back at it and very grateful. Creating is so much a part of me I was lost for a while there.

The first show will be at the Mimbres Hot Springs Ranch in Mimbres , New Mexico. I love this one! Its more like a neighborhood party. The quality of art and craft at this little show is amazing. There will be pottery, art, jewelry, herbal concoctions, Clothing, all kinds of great work for the holiday shopping season.

My other show will be here in Silver City at the convention center. Once again the quality of work is truly amazing for such a small community. I've been working hard these past weeks making new work and a new display. Another one not to miss if your in Southwest New Mexico.

My plan for this next stage in my career is to make unusual, one of a kind keepsakes that people can use their whole life and even pass down to the next generation. This world is too full of throw away crap. Instant gratification. Its time to take the lessons our ancestors gave us. Being frugal, investing in things of quality instead of quantity not throwing things away.

Due to website changes I will only be doing one blog post a month. Ill try and post towards the middle of each month. I will be posting new work every week so please dont wait til you see the blog post to check out the shop. I do post new work on Facebook and Instagram but understand some would rather not get involved with social media.

So what have I been up to besides creating? Still working on Mystic , my 1992 Class C motorhome. She is coming along nicely. We've been on a couple trips, getting ready for a big one in January and then a trip north in April. I invested in an e-bike this month as well. I bought an Aventon Adventure 3 . Its so great, with big fat tires and 6 speeds, plus a throttle. Andy & I have been riding all over the dirt roads here. I can't wait til we go north, all those beautiful trails! The Mickelson Trail in the Black Hills is definitely on our list!

I hope each and everyone of you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, health and happiness. The world is batshit crazy these days so take care. As John Trudell said years ago, Protect your spirit because you are in a place where spirits get eaten. Help other out if you can. No matter how bad things get its always a good plan to be kind.
